Copan in Honduras is fast becoming traveller’s favourite new highlight. Visitors are first attracted here by the beautiful Maya archaeology site with its famous sculptures and tunnels to view buried temples but then they are pleasantly suprised by what more this area has to offer. The small town of Copan Ruinas with it’s cobblestone streets, picturesque Spanish colonial buildings and friendly people is a joy to explore. Guests can enjoy unique day trips such as a visit to the working farm of El Cisne where they are guided by members of the family around this tropical fruits, cardamom, coffee and cattle farm and enjoy a home cooked dinner. A visit to the fabulous Macaw Mountain Bird Park is also a must to see magnificent exotic birds up close and to learn about all the work being done to rescue and conserve tropical species and to educate people on conservation in general. Archaeologist Dr David Sedat will guide guests to his fascinating medicinal plant station and for those on a higher budget he will even invite yout ohis home for dinner and a presentation on his amazing work as a archaeologist at Copan over the past 16 years.
Copan also offers guests some fantastic accomodations and our two recomendations would be Hacienda San Lucas which has the best cuisine in all of Honduras and the new boutique hotel in town La Casa Rosada. Both boutique accomodations offer guests a personlised service in a beautiful atmosphere.
